Image-guided procedures in Cincinnati.
Precision should match the diagnosis.
Ultrasound-guided musculoskeletal procedures performed with real-time visualization of the target anatomy and procedural path.
See the target. See the needle. Confirm the anatomy.
Image-guided procedures use ultrasound or other imaging to identify the intended structure and visualize the needle as the procedure is performed. In musculoskeletal medicine, that can matter because joints, tendon sheaths, bursae, nerves, fascial planes, and tendon lesions can sit only millimeters apart.
Guidance is not a substitute for diagnosis, but once a procedure is chosen it helps make the technical execution consistent with the clinical plan.
Common types of ultrasound-guided MSK procedures.
Intra-articular injections
Targeted delivery for selected shoulder, hip, knee, ankle, elbow, wrist, and small-joint procedures.
Tendon & enthesis procedures
PRP and other procedures directed to the pathologic tendon or enthesis rather than the surrounding region.
Hydrodissection
Selected peripheral nerve entrapments treated with real-time visualization of the nerve and adjacent tissues.
Targeted soft-tissue injections
Procedures involving bursae, tendon sheaths, cysts, and other superficial soft-tissue targets.
PRP & orthobiologics
Image guidance used to place biologic products at the intended joint, tendon, bone-adjacent, or soft-tissue target.
Procedural planning
Ultrasound can reveal the safest route, nearby vessels or nerves, and whether the proposed target matches the clinical findings.
Technical skill matters most when it serves the diagnosis.
Over nearly a decade of clinical practice, I have performed more than 50,000 musculoskeletal injections and image-guided procedures. My procedural work includes joint and soft-tissue injections, PRP and orthobiologic procedures, peripheral nerve hydrodissection, and minimally invasive treatments for selected chronic tendon and nerve conditions.
The procedural goal is straightforward: the right procedure, for the right diagnosis, at the right target.
What patients usually want to know.
Why use ultrasound guidance for a musculoskeletal injection?
Ultrasound lets the physician visualize the target, surrounding anatomy, and needle in real time, which is particularly useful when structures are small, deep, or close to nerves and vessels.
Are all of Dr. Girmann’s procedures ultrasound-guided?
Many procedures are ultrasound-guided when imaging improves targeting or safety. The appropriate guidance method depends on the procedure and anatomy.
Does image guidance guarantee that a procedure will work?
No. Accurate placement is only one part of a successful treatment. Diagnosis, indication, biologic or medication choice, rehabilitation, and patient factors also matter.
Where are image-guided procedures performed?
Jeremy Girmann performs clinical musculoskeletal procedures through Inertia Medical in Greater Cincinnati.
